"The goal of our Historical Newspapers program is more than just access via a digital archive: it's about advancing serious research by providing multiple perspectives through primary sources," said Rod Gauvin, senior vice president of ProQuest CSA.  "Incorporating these eminent black newspapers into our growing collection of Black News content opens new avenues of research.  These titles are fully cross-searchable with all other ProQuest Historical Newspapers- allowing researchers to compare the mainstream and minority perspectives."

Both the Atlanta Daily World and Los Angeles Sentinel are invaluable for any scholar studying American history and African-American culture, history, politics, and art.  The Los Angeles Sentinel is the oldest and largest black newspaper in the western United States and the largest African-American owned newspaper in the U.S.  Archival coverage in ProQuest Historical Newspapers and Black Studies Center extends from 1946-1991.  The Atlanta Daily World, one of the most widely circulated black newspapers in the south during the 1930s, promoted equal rights and an end to racial segregation.  Founded in 1928, the Atlanta Daily World had the first black White House correspondent and was the first black daily in the nation in the 20th century.  ProQuest Historical Black Newspapers and Black Studies Center will include the Atlanta Daily World from 1931-1995. 

When accessed through ProQuest Historical Newspapers, the Atlanta Daily World and Los Angeles Sentinel offer researchers the opportunity to compare news stories against those in the renowned New York Amsterdam News and Pittsburgh Courier (recently added to the platform), and with the eleven other national newspapers currently in the program.  These prestigious dailies include: The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Atlanta Constitution, The Boston Globe, The Hartford Courant, The New York Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Chicago Defender. All of the newspapers are cross-searchable within the award-winning ProQuest interface. 

All four black historical newspapers, along with The Chicago Defender are also available through the Black Studies Center, published under the ProQuest CSA Chadwyck-Healey brand, allowing cross-searching with other content sets focused on the African-American experience.  Black Studies Center, a core collection of studies from the foremost academic experts on the black experience, is a digital resource that creates a framework for undergraduate and graduate level Black Studies courses and fills information gaps that have stymied research and study.  Black Studies Center provides a central point of access to the most sought-after documents that chronicle and analyze the black experience.
