ProQuest to Distribute FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals to Library and Education Markets
Agreement adds to ProQuest's growing portfolio of performing arts and film products
ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 20, 2006 -- ProQuest Information and Learning announces an agreement with The International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) to distribute the FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals to library and education markets. This highly respected index provides a theoretical and critical framework for film studies.

From ProQuest’s Chadwyck-Healey unit, this resource will offer indexing for more than 300,000 articles from 300 of the world’s foremost academic and popular film journals, dating from 1972 onward. Each record will include a complete citation and abstract, with indexing according to a thesaurus developed specifically for film. Scholarly, theoretical, and critical in emphasis, it will help researchers and faculty members pinpoint the seminal literature on film and television.

Also included are other key resources: the retrospective television periodical index, International Index to TV Periodicals (1979-1998); Treasures from the Film Archives, which identifies silent film holdings in archives around the world; and the International Directory of Film/TV Documentation Collections

“We are pleased to add this respected index to Chadwyck-Healey’s growing portfolio of performing arts and film products,” says Mary Sauer-Games, Vice President of Publishing.  “With the addition of FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals we now offer all of the authoritative film study resources – with film indexes from the two major film institutes of the world – the American Film Institute (AFI), the British Film Institute (BFI) and now FIAF, with the respected, non-profit International Federation of Film Archives.”

The FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals will provide in-depth, discipline-specific indexing and abstracts, with robust searching functionality, citation management support, and a My Archive feature, and research area.  The index will be OpenURL-compliant and Z39.50-enabled.

Later in 2006, an enhanced version of FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals will offer searchable full text from many of the most important FIAF journals, including full runs of key titles such as Sight and Sound and the Journal of Popular Film and Television.  Also scheduled for later release, the FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals will join the Chadwyck-Healey resources, American Film Institute Catalog and Film Index International, within a cross-searchable film studies portal.
