ProQuest Gains Rights to Distribute 30 University of California Press Journals via ProQuest® Online Information Service
Titles enrich various ProQuest humanities and social sciences databases
ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 27, 2003 -- ProQuest Company’s (NYSE: PQE) Information and Learning unit announced an agreement with University of California Press that will bring the full text of 30 highly regarded academic journals to the company’s ProQuest® online databases, including ProQuest Research Library™, Literature Online, Periodicals Contents Index - Full Text™, Ethnic NewsWatch, International Index to Music Periodicals and other databases. The agreement allows ProQuest to distribute the University of California Press journal content electronically to educational institutions, libraries, and other markets around the world.

"University of California Press is one of the top five university publishers in the nation," said Steven Hall, senior vice president, publishing for ProQuest Information and Learning.  "This portfolio of excellent journals, with its broad range of disciplines, accessibility and timeliness, will significantly enhance ProQuest's humanities and social sciences offerings to academic libraries."

Included are key titles such as Asian Survey, Film Quarterly, Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture, The Journal of Musicology, Journal of Palestine Studies, Law and Literature, Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos, Music Perception, Music Theory Spectrum, Nineteenth-Century Literature, Social Problems and The Sociological Quarterly.

The agreement granting current full text rights will be effective January 1, 2004. Some content will be subject to a three to six month embargo. In addition, the agreement grants ProQuest rights to digitize complete backfiles of selected titles as part of the company's PCI Full Text archival database.
