ANN ARBOR, Mich., November 17, 2006 - ProQuest Information and Learning today announced the sale of its directories program, published by Toronto-based Micromedia ProQuest, to Grey House Publishing of Millerton, New York. Grey House is known for classic business tools such as The Directory of Mail Order Catalogs and a growing body of references in business, health and education, and statistics, economics and demographics. Among the titles Grey House is purchasing is the renowned Canadian Almanac & Directory, the country’s national directory and sourcebook of current and accurate institutional information for more than 155 years. Effective immediately, the acquisition comprises a group of print and electronic publications that play an important role in chronicling Canadian culture and history:
Grey House Publishing has formed a new division, Grey House Publishing Canada, Inc., to operate this new product line, maintaining sales and editorial offices in Toronto. "Grey House Publishing's core competence is directory development, making its acquisition of this line of popular, continuously evolving Canadian references a win for those who rely on these sources," said David "Skip" Prichard, president of ProQuest Information and Learning. Dick Gottlieb, president of Grey House, said, "We are looking forward to continuing to provide the currency and depth of information that the Canadian market expects from these resources. In addition to updating and enhancing the current products, we are planning on extending the product line with brand new directories and reference sources." The sale allows ProQuest to focus more resources on development of next-generation online research solutions - resources that layer technology tools over relevant data from multiple sources, allowing them to be used in the flow of work rather than during a separate research phase. ProQuest will continue to base its Canadian Sales operation in Toronto, with Micromedia ProQuest sales representatives living and working in Canada. They represent such research solutions as Canadian Newsstand and other newspaper products, ProQuest Genealogy Center resources, UMI, Chadwyck-Healey, SIRS, and other ProQuest products.
